    What is SEO and How Does it Work?

    Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process used by website owners to make their website as relevant as possible for particular search terms (keywords) that pertain to their industry, location, business, and products / services.

    The two main areas of SEO consist of “on-site” and “off-site” SEO. Both of these are needed to rank a website in the search engines. On-site optimization consists of adding applicable keywords to the pages of your website. Adding the keywords to important areas of the web page will give your website the best opportunity for ranking the website in the search engines. A few of these critical areas include the page title, H1 tags, meta description, image filename, and image alt tags.

    Off-site optimization uses links from a variety of other websites around the internet pointing to your website. Those links can come from blogs, forums, social networking sites, just to name a few.

    If a website that has the phrase “get rid of pimples today” in the key areas on the website, Google will place it in the search results according to the relevancy of those search terms to put that website on the search engines for that specific keyword.

    You need to make sure that you have other websites linking back to your site. Google only wants to rank high quality, authority level websites that are popular online. How do you get your site to be popular and authority level in Google’s eye? A solid content marketing strategy works well to boost any SEO efforts. Authority websites are those that show an “expert” level authority of certain topics. Think WebMD for medical and health niche.
